Bones

bonesBone forms the supporting framework of the body, housing all our furnishings or internal organs. It is the hardest tissue in the body, 50 % of it is solid matter, mainly calcium carbonate and calcium phosphate.

Lack of the calcium makes the bones and teeth brittle as in rickets, causes irregularity and weakness of the heart, nervousness, bleeding gums, and excessive bleeding from slight cuts and bruises.

Calcium is necessary to the proper functioning of muscles and nerves, hence its deficiency may be followed by convulsions and emotional instability.

Women during pregnancy and menstruation require much more calcium than usual, and should drink lots of milk at these periods. Yet, nine out of ten female patients say they do not like milk.

The best sources of calcium are milk, cheese, egg yolk, cauliflower, kale, chard and beans. Other sources are orange, lemon, almond, fig, date, raspberry, cabbage, carrot, spinach, oatmeal, and shellfish.
