Myasthenia Gravis

Myasthenia Gravis is a disease characterized by a wasting away of all body muscles.It usually begins with the muscles of the face and throat, making it hard for the patient to chew and swallow, other muscles usually become involved as the disease progresses.

The cause is not known.Infections and syphilis are found in a few cases, and of course that should be taken care of.General care and a light, semisolid diet should be given.Prostigmine and ephedrine give considerable relief and are prescribed by doctors now in all cases of myasthenia gravis.

But what doctors need in this and many more diseases is more research and knowledge about all such obscure diseases.

The doctor, perhaps more so than the patient, often feels the discouragement and frustation of not having sufficient knowledge and cure , but the work goes on.
