Mountain sickness is caused by climbing mountains to high altitudes and will vary with different individuals as to the level at which symptoms will develop. People with heart disease or high blood pressure, should not climb any mountains and should climb up a hill slowly and cautiously with frequent stops.
People with cirrhosis of the liver or other liver disease or kidney ailment should be just as careful in abstaining from mountain climbing or any overexertion as those people with heart ailments.
Some healthy persons will develop symptoms when climbing to a 5000 foot level, others will not develop any symptoms until 7000 or 10000 feet are reached.
The symptoms are weakness, dizziness, shortness of breath, palpitation, nausea and vomiting.Resting flat on the back, with legs elevated, will relieve the symptoms
